Ludisia discolor, commonly known as the Jewel Orchid, is a remarkable tropical orchid grown primarily for its beautiful foliage rather than its flowers. Its velvety, deep green to nearly burgundy leaves are highlighted by fine pink to reddish veins, creating a spectacular contrast. 

Unlike more traditional orchids, Ludisia has a compact growth habit and gradually develops additional stems, creating a fuller and more impressive plant as it matures.

Light:

Prefers medium to bright, indirect light. It tolerates lower-light conditions better than many other orchids. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which can scorch or discolor its beautiful foliage.

Water:
Keep the growing medium slightly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the surface to begin drying slightly between waterings. Avoid allowing the plant to remain completely dry for extended periods.

Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good air circulation. It generally adapts well to normal indoor conditions but will especially appreciate a slightly more humid environment.

Unlike many orchids that grow on trees, Ludisia discolor is primarily a terrestrial orchid that naturally grows close to the forest floor. Although it is mainly prized for its spectacular foliage, it can also produce delicate small white flowers on tall flower spikes.
