The Monstera deliciosa philodendron is a climbing plant native to Central America. It looks quite spectacular given the glossy and luscious aspect of its strong leaves, which develop with ridges and splits as it grows. Part of its name comes from the fact that in its natural habitat, it produces a pineapple-shaped fruit.

The Monstera likes being set in a warm and humid environment where bright indirect light prevails. The size of its foliage could vary depending on the luminosity it receives.

MAINTENANCE

This philodendron is an easy-care plant which appreciates slightly humid soil. As an epiphyte with aerial roots, it reacts unfavorably to overwatering which leads to soggy soil. It will require a drink when its first third is dry.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
