The Olive tree (Olea europaea) is a species part of the Oleacea family native to Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean. Symbol of peace, wisdom and eternity, this tree is exceptional.

Its trunk is grayish black and ridged. Its persistent silvery green foliage bestows a noble appearance; making it a phenomenal element of décor.

MAINTENANCE

The Olive tree thrives on heat and sun. Though it is drought resistant in its natural habitat, it should always be well watered and drained when potted. Therefore it will require a drink when its soil is slightly dry on the surface, which could vary depending on the season and the humidity level of the room. To be happy inside, the Olive tree requires southern or western exposition, synonym of direct sun. Its foliage appreciates being misted, especially during winter months.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
