MIXED VARIETIES

Whether you choose to grow a lemon tree, an orange tree or a Calamondin indoors, the fragrance of their blooms will undoubtedly please you! Each of these trees is part of the Rutaceae family native to tropical regions and the Mediterranean, comprising more that 900 species.

Citruses adapt well to our indoor conditions as long as they benefit from sun, humidity and heat. Their shiny green foliage will appreciate being misted regularly, especially during the winter months.

MAINTENANCE

Citruses thrive on humidity. They will need to be given a drink when the soil dries up slightly on the surface, without being soggy, which could lead to root rot. Watering is therefore more frequent than for most other indoor plants. If their leaves turn yellow or drop, it is a sign of insufficient or incorrect watering. Finally, citruses require very bright light or even direct sun to be happy indoors.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
