The Sanseviera trifasciata, better known as Snake Plant, is one of the many specimen part of the Sanseveria genus. It tolerates a largest array of growth conditions than any other indoor plant.

Its long sword-like, thick and pointy leaves will display different variegations depending on the variety. Very versatile, the Snake Plant adapts to any light conditions. The fact that it can grow in low light and even under artificial lighting makes it the ideal plant for those who have little time to spare for plant care.

MAINTENANCE

The Sanseviera, regardless of the variety, appreciates being watered when its soil is dry all the way through the pot. In order to assess this, plant lovers, we recommend using a wooden stick. Insert it all the way to the bottom of the pot. If the stick is wet or damp as you pull it out, the plant doesn’t need a drink yet. Depending on the season and where it is set, the Sanseviera may dry up more slowly (4 to 6 weeks). A sign of overwatering corresponds to leaves wilting or rotting at the base. By the way, it is also one of the most air-cleaning plants!

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
