Zygocactus, now classified within the genus Schlumbergera, is a tropical cactus prized for its flattened, segmented stems and beautiful seasonal blooms. Depending on the variety, flowers may be red, pink, white, orange, yellow, purple, or bicoloured.

Unlike desert cacti, it naturally grows in tropical environments and therefore prefers indirect light and somewhat more moisture.

Light:

Prefers bright, indirect light. Some gentle morning or late-afternoon direct sunlight can be beneficial, but avoid intense midday sun.

Water:
Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Unlike desert cacti, avoid leaving the growing medium completely dry for extended periods.

 Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good air circulation. It generally adapts well to normal household conditions. 

Good to know:

Zygocactus is a tropical epiphytic cactus rather than a desert cactus. Longer nights and slightly cooler temperatures in fall can encourage flower-bud development. Once buds have formed, avoid sudden changes in temperature, location, or watering, as these can cause buds to drop.
